I'm so glad to hear that you guys are safe, Joni. I also feel like the Lord is watching over all of us and protecting us in so many ways. Speaking of Christmas shopping - do you guys have any recommendations for the kids. I have been looking at all the award winner lists for toys and I don't see much I'm crazy about. I just want something the kids will actually play with. What do your kids LOVE? Have you found any new toys for this year that look great? Any great ideas for the husbands? What do you get for someone that lives at the hospital and sometimes sleeps at home? I feel like Damon doesn't have any free time to use anything I might possibly give him.
Thanks in advance for all of your help,
Ann

Hey Ann,
I was just looking over Christmas lists this morning. As far as husbands go...it seems harder this year for me too. I find myself buying things that can be used on the way to and from work. ie...driving gloves since it is freezing, a memory card for his phone so he can play music. But I am still thinking that is not enough. I did buy him a compact quad (scriptures) so they are easier to tote around. I am up for suggestions too!
I bought Samantha (2) a the little wooden kitchen from Target this year. She loves to cook and play with her pots and pans. I also got her a couple of Dora the Explorer things. I got the eyeclops for Hayden (5) because he loves looking at things with a magnifying glass and I got him some plane models and little things. I did however find this at Lillian Vernon this morning and I am tempted to order them because they look like hours of entertainment for both of them.

They are those cardboard blocks that they can build castles, spaceships, and forts. And they are cheap. Just a thought. Good luck!

I am having a hard time coming up with stuff for Adam too! I thought it was just me! I know, what do you get someone who works all the time??? Halle and Zeke are older than Kyler so probably anything I suggest they would be bored w/, but Dora made some great suggestions!
James needs a new suit. I know he'd really like a new ipod - with video, but he NEEDS a new suit.
As for the kids, I've thought long and hard about it and think I'll get Charlie a Thomas the train set and Dillon a video game system (like leapster or Nintendo DS). Something hand held. Annabelle might get a trinket or two ;)
We have the cardboard blocks and they are actually a lot of fun. They are really sturdy and Campbell just re-discovered them a few weeks ago. He's been building forts and stuff. My boys also like the Geo Trax trains and I think we'll be getting more peices for them this year.
Sorry I have no ideas for girls, but as for Andersen, anything for camping or BYU and I'm pretty much safe. We do know of someone who just got an iPhone and that thing is pretty sweet, but with four kids, a little out of our price range.
Do the blocks stack or anything? We just do not have room in our 1100 square foot apartment (thats right, you read it right. 1100 sf APARTMENT) I think those look so fun though. Give me info.
As for hubbys, I think a magazine subscription is a fun idea, or tickets to a sports game or something. I just can't fit anything else in my APARTMENT. Think clutter free!
Jason is getting yard stuff. He asked me not to get him anything so he is getting stuff he actually needs. I know that he would love a sony treo, the cell phone pda combo thing. But it is out of our price range as well. We bought the blocks for our girls but we got the Melissa and Doug brand. They were a lot more expensive. Now I am wondering if I should send them back. Are they just as good as the Lillian Vernon brand? Anybody know?
me and jason already bought eachother our things--he got me socks and i got him a wallet--DONE! we decided our budget just doesn't allow for 'stuff' so we agreed not to get eachother anything, so that was easy.
for the kids we just got them each a couple of little things we thought they would like. eva is not even two yet, but she thinks she's five and INSISTS on having whatever the triplets have--so, most things times 4 is just way too expensive!
jenny, all four of our kids have a leapster (thank you grandma hughes...) yes, even eva has one and she LOVES it. they all love them, i highly recommend them. ours have been put through the ringer, let me tell you, but other than changing batteries they have held up SO well, i'm super impressed with them. only thing is the games are 20$ a piece, so either buy some on ebay or used ones somehow. but the kids have fun with the games. they get kind of bored of the games that are built into the system. anyway, hours of fun with leapsters around here.
happy shopping!
Megan
I love all of the suggestions. I too have been a bit stumped this year. The good thing is that our kids are little enough that they are more excited about the idea of Christmas. I really don't think it is going to matter too much what they get. Which is a good thing since we won't be spending much this year. I still haven't found a good gift for Jordan or Kailyn yet. I too want something they will actually get excited about and play with. I did get them things like scarves, toothbrushes (I found some at walmart that blink to for a minute so they know how long to brush) my girls are really into make believe so I got them some dolls they can dress and play with (they are like paper dolls only made out of felt). Caden was easy. Found some pretend tools and other small toys from Goodwill. He gets so excited anytime Ken gets out his tools. Good luck. I really hate buying gifts...I'm just no good at it.
