Ryan Dean Bassett

We had our baby last Friday night at 11:42 pm. This pregnancy was definitely my most interesting. After a couple questionable ultrasounds my doctor decided it was time to get the little guy out. I was in shock when she told me she wanted me to go straight to the hospital and get induced. Of course this was one of the few times Ken was working at a different hospital (I delivered at the one he normally works at). It took some work but he was finally able to get away so he could be there for the birth. My epidural was only working on my right side, it was not fun. Each time I have a baby my epidural works less and less (they said probably due to scar tissue). Ryan came out with his cord wrapped around his neck 2 times but with no complications. He seems to be a perfectional healthy baby. He was 6lbs 5 oz and 20 inches long.

I am healing fine. I have had issues with breastfeeding. It is SO frustrating! One would think after breastfeeding 3 kids it would be second nature. Unfortunately, this is not the case for me. I have blood blisters and open sores. Can you say, ouch!

I am just so glad he is here and healthy...and that I am done with the doctor's visits (I was having to go 2+ times a week at minimum of 2 1/2 hours a visit. It was getting really old.)

Shelly, He is beautiful!!! That is so exciting. I am so glad ken was able to make it in time. That was rather an eventful fourth delivery. On the breastfeeding, I totally hear you. Fifth baby and I was still open sores, blood blisters and extreme pain with latch on. Yikes! And I felt like a complete retard every time anyone would say, are you breastfeeding? I loved breastfeeding! And I on the other hand do it only for the health of the baby! I did spend two hours with a lactation specialist this time though that was awesome. She gave me more information than all other 4 specialists put together. It made the experience much less intense. She gave me some all natural suggestion to help reduce sensitivity like eating a T of ground flax seed with breakfast per day. It did help reduce the pain at latch on. additionally she gave me these little madonna cups to wear around the house so when my little people ran up to hug me I wouldn't be in agony and it helped make sure there was enough air in there so I didn't get infected. If you want I can send them out to you if you think they might help. Sorry, way too much info on the blog! If you want I can email you the rest of the tips she gave me. They really helped me at least. Once again, congrats and good luck. He is so sweet!

CONGRATULATIONS Shelly!! He is perfect and SO adorable! What a sweet perfect family you have- 2 boys and 2 girls!! Lucky!!

I think the only thing that gets easier the more kids you have is deciding when to quit! Just kidding :) I hope you are able to get through this rough time with the breastfeeding. It sounds just miserable. Its amazing how fast we forget how painful it all is! ;0) BIG HUGS!!

Congratulations! I am glad he was alright! That is pretty scary! and I am glad Ken could make it. You look great! You could also try those nipple shields from Medela, you can find them at target etc. They are kinda expensive ($6bucks each? but reusable they are made of silicone) but saved me with Hayden. Blistered and bled too! Hang in there. If you haven't already lactation consultants can be helpful... if you don't like on try to find another. Most hospitals have at least 2.

What a cutie!! You look great in the pictures. I love the one with all your kiddies around you. What a sweet family. Good with the nursing. I don't have anything to add except that if I breastfeed again I want those Madonna cups. Sounds like a great idea, probably invented by a woman.
