Nursery!

Well, Dora, I spoke too soon. Today, I got called to be the new nursery leader. You'll have to let me know if you have any good ideas to make things run smoother. Our nursery seems to be pretty primitive. They do have it divided into an older and a younger nursery. I'll be in the younger nursery with Hallie. I think it will be fun. I do love little kids and Hallie seems to like having me in there. Anyway, I would love suggestions from everybody! Also, today was the primary program in our ward. It was so cute to see Zeke recite his little part. It seems a little early to be doing the program, but I'm sure everyone is glad to have it over with now.

Oh No! Look what happened to you. I should have warned you if you say yes to substitute they will get you every time. hehehe.
Well, I really liked how they ran the nursery in my old ward in AZ. They came in and sat at the table and had puzzle time for a little bit. Then sat in a semi circle for story time, singing time, and then back to the table for snack. After snack they had the lesson and then play time for the last 30mins or so. It seemed to run so smoothly. They do things different in the ward but I am the assistant nursery leader so I can't go changing things up too much at the beginning and ruffle feathers. Little do they know that things are gonna change. jk! This ward is into giving healthy snacks like cheese cubes, apple slices, bananas and low sugar cereal. Whatever happened to fruit snacks, graham crackers, and pretzels? Oh well, I am sure you will do fine but make sure you get some alone time in the week somehow. I am trading babysitting with a lady in our ward and we watch each others kids for 2 hrs or so so we can go run erands alone. It is rather nice to get groceries without the little humans tagging along.
I have said too much. Rhett is gone on call today can you tell? Have fun!

Oh man. When I dropped Charles off at nursery today I said to myself, "at least I don't have to be one of the poor souls that deal with these little monsters today!" They were all just out of control! I've done it before, though, and it can be really really fun too. I really like how in this ward they don't let parents come in to nursery - EVER. If the child is really sincerely upset, they'll go get one of the parents. In AZ the nursery leader there wouldn't let you leave your child if they were crying!
I liked how in AZ they had free playtime at the beginning b/c the kids had just sat through all of sacrament meeting.

ANYWAY, I'm sure you'll be amazing and your nursery will be a little slice of heaven on earth :) Good luck!

I have to tell you that I would LOVE to be in the nursery! I am very jealous! I think you will find that it is so very fulfilling. I know people always say they don't like it because they don't get to know other people in the ward. I have found that as I take my own kids to nursery, I feel extremely close to the nursery workers. I think there is an instant trust and love for those working in the nursery. For me it's usually the first time I've left my kids with someone other than family. I'm over the nursery right now, and that is the calling that has for sure taken the most prayer. It's a special calling and you will be so PERFECT!

How ironic :) I loved nursery when we were in there in the bellair ward. They had a pretty structured program and the kids responded really well, at least when i was in there. Anyway, i am sure you will do great. Nursery age is so fun and they learn so quickly, you will love it and don't worry you will go back to RS someday and sometimes be bored or have a tiny baby anyway and be in the hall :)Anyway Heavenly Father must know you have a strong testimony and can go without RS lessons for a while ;)
love, Rachel

Ann and Dora, Its funny that you say, oh no, about nursery, that is how I felt about yws. Maybe that is because bishop hinted to nursery and I actually would have liked to do that. Nursery kids are way easier than teenagers you know. Plus it is only a sunday calling which I like. I agree with Rachel J. that Bellair ran their nursery really well. I think it is a little easier said than done organizing and getting all the leaders on the same page and getting the kids used to it. Sometimes leaders go in there and it is like visiting for two hours intermittenly (spelling?) taking care of the kids. Anyway I am sure you have great ideas that you are already thinking of and will do great in nursery. Hope you are doing well.

In AZ I was called to the nursery as a nursery worker and ended up being in there for almost 2yrs. I ended up being the nursery leader for 76 kids. We had to have 4 nurseries. And being pregnant and then having a baby was not a good enough excuse to be released. I LOVED being the nursery leader, but I liked it more just being a nursery worker because I actually got to know the kids in the nursery when I got to stay with just one class, instead of supervising 4. I think the only frustrating part about the calling was waiting for an eternity to get people called in to help. The kids did soooo much better when there was a regular teacher rather than random people filling in every week. That was my favorite when I would finally connect with a child and then they would wave at me during sacrament meeting. So cute! Anyway, just take it one Sunday at a time, oh and try to get a nap when you come home from church :0)
