Question for you ladies..

Hi gals!! I'm posting this at almost midnight... James is on call and I just can't sleep!

So, as of yesterday, I'm officially more pregnant than I have ever been! It's not supposed to be that way with #3, but then things don't happen "the normal way" for me usually. I have a DR appointment on Thursday and she said she'd strip my membranes if I wanted her to. What are your experiences with this? Anyone done it and what happened??? I've heard it hurts like CRAZY, but so does labor and that's where I'm trying to get, right? It would be so perfect to have this baby next weekend. I've just heard from a couple of people lately that it doesn't do anything but make you miserable for a few hours. ??????

I'm kind of getting nervous! I've had one totally freaky birth experience and one amazing, but super painful and long one. Any bets that this will be short and sweet? Nah, me neither ;)

AnnMarie - aren't you due this week?? Hugs and BEST OF LUCK to you girl.

Hey Jenny! I wish i had more personal experience to add... From others who have had their membranes stripped they have said that it hurts a little, but nothing too crazy. But it just depends on your cervix and it's position...mine was all off to the side when they broke my water and it hurt like a mother when the Dr. had to move it to the center to get the hook where it needed to be. If you have any pain it will come from your cervix, not the actually stripping of the membrane...I am sorry your pregnancy seems to be going on and on! that is so frustrating... i hope she comes soon!
love, Rachel
ps. Jen had her baby yesterday... she was in labor all day and the baby was posterior, facing the wrong way pinching her intestines...i guess it was pretty painful, even with an epidural.. but he is here. 7lbs 5oz :)

Jenny,

I remember when they stripped my membranes with Zeke and I would say it was really really uncomfortable, but nothing horrific. Like Rachel said, I think it depends on the situation. I remember I just had to pee so bad and I wanted to go before they did it,but they wouldn't let me. So mostly I was just focusing on not peeing all over the doctor. I'm sure you'll know what to do when the time is right. Please keep us posted on everything.

Jenny,

I had my membranes stripped twice with my last pregnancy. I don't know that it helped but I know that I was ready to do anything to get the baby out. Well anyway it didn't really hurt at all for me. It was just uncomfortable. For me it was comparable to getting a pap smear. A little deep breathing and it was over. So if you want to try, go for it. If it hurts but labor starts it would be worth it. If it hurts and labor doesn't start then at least you can say you experienced it. Bottom line - I would do it again.
Good luck getting that baby out. I understand how you are feeling. I hope that everything goes well for you. Are you planning on going with pain meds or not?

I think I've had my membranes stripped with all of them. Wasn't painful at all, but it didn't do anything either. Good luck and I hope it gets things moving.

You've all convinced me to do it. I hope it does something, but yeah if not at least I tried ;) Thanks for the advice!!

I'm desperate I'm desperate! Maybe not for help, but for a visit from a good friend! ;) Who knows though, my mom's new job isn't as flexible as she thought it would be and I am a bit nervous about that. Especially since they're not giving James any Paternity leave - NOT A SINGLE STINKIN' DAY! Come anytime!!
